1936 - 2009 Johan D. Tangelder

Amsterdam, NL - London Ontario

Reformed Perspective

In 1995, after almost forty years as a minister in Canada and missionary in the Philippines, health problems forced Rev. Johan Tangelder to step down from the pulpit.

When we confront difficulties like this, it can be hard to understand how God is working this for the good of those who love Him (Rom. 8:28), though in hindsight we can sometimes get a glimpse of how God is using even the bad for His glory.

Rev. Tangelder could no longer preach, but he was now free to write! And over the last 13 years he has done so, prolifically, becoming a regular contributor to publications including Outlook, Christian Renewal and of course Reformed Perspective. Through his writing the Lord used Rev. Tangelder to teach even larger numbers than he did through his preaching.

On July 23, 2009 Rev. Johan Tangelder was called home to be with his Lord and Savior. In this issue we feature one of his last contributions, on the sovereignty of God, with two articles still to come in the following months. We will miss the insight and experience he shared with us generously in varied and almost innumerable contributions, but thank the Lord for the gift he gave us all in Rev. Tangelder.
